The Claiborne Group is subdivided into the Mount Selman and Cook Mountain subgroups, and the Yegua Formation. The Mount Selman includes, from base to top, the Reklaw, Queen City, and Weches formations; and the Cook Mountain subgroup includes the Sparta Formation at its base and the Crockett Formation at its top. The Carrizo Formation is the oldest stratigraphic unit in the Claiborne Group, whereas the Yegua Formation is the youngest. The Yegua Formation overlies the Crockett and underlies Jackson or Moody Branch strata.
